The VFW Post 6393 Essay Contest is part of the national youth scholarship and education programs sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW). These programs are designed to encourage students to explore the meaning of patriotism, democracy, and civic responsibility while developing their writing and critical thinking skills.

At the national level, the VFW conducts two primary essay-based programs: Patriot’s Pen, open to middle school students, and Voice of Democracy, open to high school students. Each year, students across the country respond to a shared patriotic theme, competing at the local, district, state, and national levels for recognition and scholarship opportunities.

Through this program, students are challenged to reflect on their role in supporting and strengthening our nation. Whether through personal experiences, community involvement, or thoughtful analysis, participants gain a deeper understanding of the values that define our country.

VFW Post 6393 is proud to support this initiative at the local level by partnering with area schools, encouraging student participation, and recognizing outstanding submissions. The Post hosts an annual awards program to celebrate the achievements of participating students and educators, highlighting the importance of youth engagement and community connection.

By supporting the VFW Essay Contest, Post 6393 continues its mission of service beyond the uniform—investing in the next generation, promoting patriotism, and strengthening the bond between veterans and the community they serve.
