OPERATION HONOR

If a veteran needs help, we'll be there. This program is, simply put, veterans helping veterans.

Home Assistance Program

The Home Assistance Program is a community-based initiative of VFW Post 6393 dedicated to assisting local veterans and widowed spouses of veterans with essential household maintenance and minor repair projects. Designed to address tasks that may be physically challenging or financially out of reach, the program focuses on improving safety, accessibility, and quality of life—right where it matters most: at home. From repairing steps and installing handrails to fixing plumbing issues or clearing overgrown yards, this program ensures veterans can continue living safely and with dignity.

This program was created in response to a growing need among aging, disabled, or fixed-income veterans for whom small home repairs can quickly become major hazards. Led by Post members with hands-on trade and handyman experience, and supported by a team of dedicated volunteers—many veterans themselves—the program has completed dozens of projects since its inception. When needed, the Post also assists with material costs, ensuring that no eligible veteran goes without critical repairs due to financial hardship.

More than a repair service, the program is about connection, respect, and continued service. Volunteers often build lasting relationships with the veterans they assist, reinforcing the VFW’s mission that service does not end when the uniform comes off. Funded entirely through community donations, fundraising events, and Post activities, the program reflects the collective commitment of VFW Post 6393 and the Yardley community to care for those who have served.

The Home program is available to honorably discharged veterans and widowed spouses of veterans living in the local area, with priority given to those who are elderly, disabled, or living on limited incomes. Whether you are seeking assistance, looking to volunteer your time and skills, or hoping to support the program through a donation, VFW Post 6393 welcomes your involvement. Together, we continue to send a clear message: our veterans are not forgotten—and they never stand alone.
